Logic Problem Solution:
The Danny Devito Film Festival
Russo (clue 3), Preston (7), and Quayle (9) selected the Danny Devito films for
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, in some order, so Monday's and Friday's movies
were picked by Sanchez and Tanner, in some order. By clue 3, Chip selected his
no later than Wednesday, as did Evan (7) and Dan (9), so they made the choices for
Monday-Wednesday, in some order. Since Dan isn't Sanchez or Tanner (1), he didn't
make Monday's pick. If Chip had chosen Monday's Devito movie, then Russo would
have selected Tuesday's and Tin Men would have been Wednesday's feature (3). Since
Evan didn't pick Tin Men (10), he would then be Russo, and Dan would have chosen
Tin Men. Then Quayle would have selected Thursday's movie and Get Shorty would
have been Friday's film (9), with Dan then Preston and Thursday's showing Batman
Returns (7). But Ben isn't Quayle (clue 2) and Alex didn't choose Batman Returns
(4)--so this arrangement is contradictory and Evan chose Monday's movie. Since
neither Sanchez nor Tanner picked Tin Men to show (8), by clue 3, Tin Men was
wasn't Friday's movie; it ran Thursday, with Russo making Wednesday's selection and
Chip Tuesday's. In clue 9, then, Dan is Russo, Quayle picked Tin Men, and Get Shorty
was Friday's festival entry. Batman Returns was Wednesday's feature, and Preston is
Chip (7). Alex is Quayle, and Ben picked Get Shorty (2). Since Sanchez didn't choose
Romancing the Stone or Twins (5), he can't be Evan and is Ben; Evan is Tanner. Evan
chose Twins (6) and Chip Romancing the Stone. In sum, the Phi Lambda Kappa Danny
Devito film festival ran
- Monday: Evan Tanner chose Twins
- Tuesday: Chip Preston picked Romancing the Stone
- Wednesday: Dan Russo selected Batman Returns
- Thursday: Alex Quayle picked Tin Men
- Friday: Ben Sanchez chose Get Shorty
