Logic Problem Solution:
Apprentice Bakers
Neither Isaac (clue 2), Mike (5), nor Kara (7) made the first mistake,
so either Jeff or Luanne did. Neither of then is Wonder (1). In clue
7, then, Wonder made the second or third error. If Wonder had goofed
up second, then the "Birthday" error would have been third, and Kara
would have made the fourth mistake (7). Since Jeff isn't Wonder (1),
the only way for clue 9 to work with Wonder having made the second
mistake would be for Jeff to have made the third and Kara to be
Crocker--no (3). So, Wonder made the third (5:30 a.m.) mistake,
followed by the bad speller fourth and then Kara fifth and last (7).
Since Jeff isn't Wonder (1) and Kara isn't Crocker (3), by clue 9,
Jeff made the first mistake of the day, at 5:00, and Crocker the
second. By clue 2, Isaac erred immediately after the apprentice who
forgot the yeast for the Italian bread. Jeff didn't forget the yeast
(6), so Isaac isn't Crocker; and Isaac didn't misspell "Birthday" (10).
Isaac is Wonder, and Crocker forgot to add yeast. By clue 4, Schmidt
must be the "Brithday" person, and Kara forgot to top the cherry
Danish with cherries. Kara is Fields and Jeff Keebler (8). By clue
11, Isaac Wonder put salt instead of sugar into the doughnuts, and
Jeff overbaked the cookies. Finally, Mike is Schmidt and Luanne
Crocker (5). In order, the apprentice bakers wrecked the Cozy
Valley Bakery goods as follows:
- 5:00 a.m. -- Jeff Keebler, overbaked chocolate chip cookies
- 5:15 a.m. -- Luanne Crocker, forgot yeast for Italian bread
- 5:30 a.m. -- Isaac Wonder, salt instead of sugar in doughnuts
- 5:45 a.m. -- Mike Schmidt, iced "Brithday" cakes
- 6:00 a.m. -- Kara Fields, no cherries in cherry Danish
