Logic Problem Solution:
The Forgetfuls in France
By clue 3, one Forgetful family member lost the guidebook at either
Thursday's or Friday's tourist locale; and by clue 5, another lost
the umbrella at the other of those two days' stops. Therefore, the
hat and video camera were lost on Monday and Tuesday or vice versa.
By clue 3, the visit to the Eiffel Tower was on Monday or Tuesday;
and by clue 5, the tour of the Palace or Versailles was the other of
those two days. Since the video camera wasn't left behind at the
Eiffel Tower (6), it was lost at Versailles. By elimination, one
Forgetful forget his or her hat at the top of the Eiffel Tower. If
the trip to the Palace of Versailles in clue 5 had been on Monday and
the Eiffel Tower excursion on Tuesday, then the hat would have been
the item Frannie lost (3, 5)--no (1). So, the Forgetfuls went up the
Eiffel Tower on Monday, where one of the family lost a hat; Fred lost
his video camera at Versailles on Tuesday; Frannie lost the guidebook
on Wednesday (3, 5), and the umbrella was lost on Thursday. Frankie
lost the hat and his mother Frieda the umbrella (2). By clue 4,
Frieda left the umbrella at the Louvre; and Frannie lost her guidebook
at Chartres Cathedral. The Forgetfuls left behind personal items in
France as follows:
- Monday -- Frankie lost his hat at the Eiffel Tower
- Tuesday -- Fred left the video camera at the Palace
- of Versailles
- Wednesday -- Frannie lost the guidebook at Chartres Cathedral
- Thursday -- Frieda forgot her umbrella at the Louvre
