Logic Problem Solution:
The Easter Egg Roll
Two girls (Erica, Christina) and three boys (Andrew, Billy,
Daniel) finished 1st-5th in the annual Governor's Easter Egg
Roll. Since neither Erica (clue 2) nor Christina (7) placed
5th, in clue 1, the Lt. Governor's child finished 3rd or
higher in the race. Since Erica didn't place 4th (5), by clue
2, Erica was 3rd or higher in the Egg Roll. Erica isn't the Lt.
Governor's child (1, 2). By clue 4, Billy was 3rd or higher in
the final order and also isn't the Lt. Governor's child (9). So,
Billy, Erica, and the Lt. Governor's child took 1st-3rd places,
in some order, in the Governor's Easter Egg Roll. If Billy had
placed 3rd, by clue 1, the Hare girl would have been 2nd and the
Lt. Governor's child 1st. Erica would have to be the Hare girl,
with Billy then the Grass boy (2)--no (9). If Billy had finished
in 2nd place, the Lt. Governor's child would have finished 3rd
(1) and Erica 1st, with Billy then the Grass boy (2)--no again
(9). So, Billy won the Egg Roll and the Secretary of State's
child placed 2nd (4). Then the Lt. Governor's child finished
3rd, with the Hare girl 4th (1). Erica was 2nd and Lt. Governor
Grass's child 3rd (2). Christina is the Hare girl. By clue 6,
the Director of Public Safety's child won 4th prize, and Daniel
placed 5th. By elimination, Andrew was 3rd. Daniel's surname is
Dye (8). He is the Comptroller's child, and Billy's parent is
Speaker of the House (3). Finally, Erica's last name is Hunt, and
Billy's is Bonnett (5). The first five finishers in the Governor's
Easter Egg Roll were
- 1st - Billy Bonnett, Speaker of the House
- 2nd - Erica Hunt, Secretary of State
- 3rd - Andrew Grass, Lt. Governor
- 4th - Christina Hare, Director of Public Safety
- 5th - Daniel Dye, Comptroller
