Logic Problem Solution:
At the Farmers Market
From the introduction, Sally Salada bought a different number of
lbs., from 1-5, of each of the five items she purchased at the
Meyersdale Farmers Market. By clue 1, three of the items that Sally
bought are red lettuce, the fruit or vegetable she bought at the
Raindrop Acres stand, and the one of which she purchased 1 lb. By
clue 4, Sally bought more white potatoes than of what she picked at
Freshly Fruit & Vegetables, so the white potatoes aren't the 1 lb.
purchase in clue 1; and by clue 7, she didn't get the white potatoes
at the Raindrop Acres stand. Therefore, the white potatoes are the
fourth item purchased to the three in clue 1. Sally didn't buy the
white potatoes (4), red lettuce, or fruit/vegetable of which she
got 1 lb. (8) at the Freshly Fruits & Vegetables stand. Therefore,
the purchase at the Freshly Fruits & Vegetables stand is the fifth
to the four already named. By clue 3, Sally Salada made a 2 lb.
purchase at Grow Bros. Produce. Since her purchase at Freshly Fruits
& Vegetables was for more than 1 lb. (8), by clue 4, she bought at
least 3 lbs. of white potatoes. So, Sally bought 2 lbs. of red
lettuce at the Grow Bros. Produce stand. Her purchase of 5 lbs. of
Granny Smith apples (5) wasn't at Freshly Fruits & Produce (4) and was
at the Raindrop Acres stand. By clue 4, then, Sally bought 4 lbs.
of white potatoes and 3 lbs. of food at Freshly Fruits & Produce's
stand. The purchases of 1 and 3 lbs. were of blueberries and peaches
or vice versa. By clue 2, therefore, Sally Salada got the white
potatoes at the Tiller Gardens stand. By elimination, the 1 lb.
purchase was at the Sunset Farm stand--of blueberries (6), with the
peaches then the item bought at the Freshly Fruits & Produce stand.
In sum, Sally Salada's Meyersdale Farmers Market purchases were
- 5 lbs. of Granny Smith apples at Raindrop Acres
- 4 lbs. of white potatoes at Tiller Gardens
- 3 lbs. of peaches at Freshly Fruits & Vegetables
- 2 lbs. of red lettuce at Grow Bros. Produce
- 1 lb. of blueberries at Sunset Farm
